Open Arms Village

Open Arms Village, Mlango is a community in Kenya of outstanding beauty and tranquility where healing is found by all.

It is an area of spectacular, unparalleled splendor; a community where children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and other tragedies can put their trauma’s behind them.

‘..I witnessed children feeling safe enough, being cared for and valued in a way that was allowing them to integrate their trauma and carry on with being children.’
Heather Drake, Child Psychologist about the Open Arms Village - 2010

Mlango

The Open Arms Village is a place where health care can be available to people who have none; a place Westerners can come and have their souls invigorated and refreshed through their selfless acts of service.

Mlango is the Swahili word for door, and Open Arms Village is a doorway to healing and health for all who enter there.

Together, we can help change the lives of children orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS.
At Open Arms Village we provide them with:

  • A loving and nurturing family environment
  • On-site healthcare through our medical and dental clinic
  • High quality elementary and secondary education
  • Vocational training in agriculture, hospitality and administration
  • Adult life education, employment contacts, and family and marriage preparation
  • Emotional and spiritual support in a Christian environment

Replicate their home environment

The children are referred to Open Arms by the local Children’s District Office. At our Village they are raised by indigenous House Parents according to local tradition and culture.

We aim to replicate their home environment.

New family

Each home has Kenyan House Parents and a set of Assistant House Parents. Together they care for the children and raise them as their own.  The men hold a full-time professional position at the Open Arms Village.

New homes

We now have 3 homes build where up to 16 children live. That might sound like a lot to those of us in the West, but large families are a way of life in Kenya.
Very soon we shall be opening our new Baby Home. Here we shall care for the specialist needs of abandoned and highly vulnerable newborn babies.

You can be part of this too

You can help to provide a family for a child that has been abandoned or orphaned, and give them a hope and a future.

You may like to join us on an Outreach Trip and demonstrate your compassion through caring work at the Open Arms Village by volunteering.

If you prefer, you can support our work financially and ensure that many more orphaned children can have a new family and receive education. There are a variety of ways in which you can give.
