Rachel Gallagher, Co-Founder, President, Kenya Executive Director, Open Arms International


Co-Founder, President, Kenya Executive Director

Rachel is a registered nurse who has carried healing in her hands through a variety of medical and evangelistic experiences, including work with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, India. A graduate of Oral Roberts University, Rachel has worked as a staff and charge nurse in the pediatric and neonatal intensive care units of three leading U.S. children's hospitals. She is fulfilling her life-long dream of caring for the needy and hopeless of the world.



Strategic Partnerships

Stephanie joined the Open Arms team in 2018 after serving long term in both international and local missions positions. Her experience on the mission field provides a unique understanding of the importance of strategic partnerships in the health and longevity of all missions organizations. She loves sharing the opportunity to join Open Arms as a partner and friend to those she meets.



Executive Director

Kaytie took her first international ministry trip in 2003 and fell in love with doing God’s work in the most desperate of places. She has been involved in leadership positions for nonprofits since 1998 and was the first employee of Open Arms in 2005. While her travels have taken her many places in the world, her heart has remained with Open Arms, and she is currently serving as the Executive Director for the U.S. offices.



Strategic Partnerships

Matt has served with Open Arms since 2008. In 2009, Matt and his wife Cheryl had the opportunity to move to Kenya to help start Open Arms Village. Matt wears many different hats with Open Arms, but he primarily serves to build partnerships between Open Arms and churches. He and his wife Cheryl also love leading mission teams to the Village.



Champion for Children

Laura started with Open Arms as a volunteer and became a staff member in 2013. She now oversees communications and best practice. Laura has a passion for missions and a heart for the abandoned and orphaned. She has been involved with many other mission-based organizations in the past, both locally and abroad.



Finance & HR

Jeannie joined the team in 2017 with an extensive background in nonprofit accounting and a heart for cross-cultural missions. She lives in Vancouver, WA – not too far from her four incredible grandchildren!


Champion for Children

Shirley was a longtime volunteer with Open Arms before staying at the Village for six months in 2012. As a retired teacher and grandmother of 5 wonderful grandchildren, getting to know the families of Open Arms and working with the teachers at the academy was a dream come true. Now on the communications team in the US office, Shirley is able to keep up with not only the growing families but also with the expanding outreach of Open Arms.




Andrea has been a vital part of the Open Arms development and communications teams since 2013. She is the brilliant mind behind all Open Arms events, big and small. Andrea has a passion for international development and empowering women.



Administrative Guru

Brittany joined Open Arms in 2018 after completing her college internship here. She has a degree in nonprofit management and a heart for community development at home and abroad.


Travel Guru

Bailey began working with Open Arms after spending a few years abroad, working in the corporate world. Her experience in project management coupled with overseas mission experience and hosting adventure tourism equip her with unbeatable travel expertise. Bailey now lives in the Portland area and helps guide effective outreach teams to Open Arms Village.


Tara & Breda Whiteman, Open Arms International


Ted and Brenda live at Open Arms Village coordinating community engagement. They play a vital role on the ground in Kenya and help us work towards our goal of a self-sustaining Village.

Tara Lepp, Open Arms International


Tara is a retired Linfield College professor who now calls Kenya home. She helps with athletic training, community engagement, and gospel outreach at Open Arms Village and beyond.
